How to get tea out of carpet

Blot up the tea with a clean cloth and rinse with cold water, then treat with a dish-soap or vinegar solution; fresh tea usually lifts, but old tannin stains can be hard to remove.

  1. Blot the excess tea with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub.
  2. Rinse the area with cold water to flush out the stain.
  3. Pretest your cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area first to check colorfastness.
  4. Work a small amount of dish soap or laundry detergent mixed with cold water into the pile with your fingers.
  5. Blot the area with a clean cloth dampened with white vinegar to lift remaining color.
  6. Rinse with cold water to remove the cleaning solution.
  7. Place a 1/2 inch layer of dry paper towels or cloths over the area and weight it down with a book to draw out moisture.
Don't do this
Tannin stains are difficult to treat and can become permanent if set, so act quickly. If the stain persists, a commercial product made for this, used per its label, is your best option.
