How to get chocolate out of carpet
Scrape up excess chocolate first, then blot with cool water and dish soap; carpet often improves, but a remaining mark may need a commercial product made for this.
- Lift off any solid chocolate with a dull knife or spoon.
- Blot the spot with a clean cloth dampened with cool water.
- Mix a small amount of dish soap with cool water.
- Blot the stain with the dish soap mixture using a clean cloth.
- Blot with a clean cloth dampened with cool water to remove dish soap residue.
- Blot with a dry clean cloth until the carpet is as dry as possible.
Don't do this
- Do not rub, because rubbing spreads the stain and frays the carpet pile.
- Do not overwet the carpet, because too much water can leave a circle in the treated area.
- Do not use heat, because it can make the stain harder to remove.
If the stain remains after careful blotting, use a commercial product made for this, used per its label. Do not keep soaking the carpet.
