How to get candle wax out of carpet

Harden the wax with ice, then scrape it off and lift the rest with a warm iron through paper towels; most wax comes out, though colored dye may need a follow-up.

  1. Place a bag of ice or an ice pack over the wax for at least 10 minutes, keeping meltwater off the carpet.
  2. Gently scrape the hardened wax off the carpet with a dull knife or spoon; never rub.
  3. Fold several layers of paper towels or a clean cloth over the stain.
  4. Press with a warm iron (not hot) through the paper, moving the blotter as the wax is absorbed; repeat until the wax lifts.
  5. If a dye remains, blot the area with rubbing alcohol.
  6. When thoroughly dry, brush the area with a soft brush to restore the pile.
Don't do this
If a colored dye persists after the alcohol, it may be set and hard to remove. A commercial product made for this, used per its label, is the honest next step.
