How to get red wine out of carpet

Blot the fresh red-wine stain with a clean white cloth and cold water, then use salt; quick treatment may reduce the stain but may not remove it completely.

1. Blot up as much liquid as possible with clean white cloths.
2. Apply table salt to the fresh stain to absorb and pull the stain out.
3. Pretest the white vinegar and laundry or enzyme detergent on an inconspicuous area to determine colorfastness.
4. Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup cold water, then blot the stain; repeat with a laundry or enzyme detergent and cold water mixture.
5. Sponge with clean cold water, then blot until you remove as much excess moisture as possible.
