How to get permanent marker out of carpet
Blot with cool water first, then use diluted white vinegar and rinse with cool water; the marker may only partly lift from carpet.
- Sponge the stained carpet with cool water.
- Blot dry with a clean cloth; do not rub.
- Sponge the stain again with cool water, then blot.
- Sponge with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts cool water.
- Blot with a clean cloth.
- Sponge with cool water, blot again, and allow the carpet to dry.
Don't do this
- Do not rub; rubbing spreads the stain and frays the carpet pile.
- Do not use rubbing alcohol in this method; it can damage some fibers.
- Do not skip the final cool-water blot; it helps remove the white vinegar odor.
Permanent marker on carpet may be only partly removable. If the stain remains, use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
