How to get permanent marker out of carpet

Blot with cool water first, then use diluted white vinegar and rinse with cool water; the marker may only partly lift from carpet.

  1. Sponge the stained carpet with cool water.
  2. Blot dry with a clean cloth; do not rub.
  3. Sponge the stain again with cool water, then blot.
  4. Sponge with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts cool water.
  5. Blot with a clean cloth.
  6. Sponge with cool water, blot again, and allow the carpet to dry.
Don't do this
Permanent marker on carpet may be only partly removable. If the stain remains, use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
