How to get mustard out of carpet
Scrape up excess mustard first, then use cool water and blotting; mustard is very difficult to remove and may leave a slight yellow or red stain.
- Remove excess mustard with a dull knife or spoon.
- Pretest cool water on an inconspicuous area to check colorfastness.
- Sponge the stained area with cool water.
- Blot with clean white cloths, rotating to a clean area of the cloth as the stain transfers.
- Repeat sponging with cool water and blotting until no more stain is being removed.
- Blot thoroughly with clean dry cloths to remove excess moisture.
- Run your hand across the carpet against the nap to set the pile, then allow the carpet to air dry.
Don't do this
- Do not rub; rubbing spreads the stain and frays pile.
- Do not keep blotting with a stained part of the cloth; it can transfer mustard back to the carpet.
- Do not skip the colorfastness pretest; the carpet color may not be stable.
- Do not assume the stain will disappear completely; mustard can leave a slight yellow or red stain.
Mustard is very difficult to remove successfully, so a slight yellow or red stain may remain. If you try more, use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
