How to get ink out of upholstery
Check the upholstery care tag code first, treat fresh ink immediately with minimal moisture, and know that dried ink may be impossible to remove.
- Check the upholstery care tag code before you start.
- Pretest cold/cool water on an inconspicuous area for colorfastness.
- Blot the ink with clean cloths; do not rub.
- Lightly dampen a clean cloth with cold/cool water.
- Blot the stain with the damp cloth, using as little moisture as possible.
- Blot again with a dry clean cloth.
Don't do this
- Do not rub; rubbing can spread the ink.
- Do not soak the upholstery; use minimal moisture.
- Do not skip the inconspicuous-area pretest; the upholstery may not be colorfast.
- Do not wait; ink may be impossible to remove if allowed to dry.
Ink can be permanent, especially if it dries. If it remains, use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
