How to get blood out of upholstery

Check the care tag code, then blot fresh blood with cold water and a clean cloth; if the stain is still wet, this should remove it.

  1. Check the care tag code before adding cold water.
  2. Pretest cold water on an inconspicuous area to check colorfastness.
  3. Blot the blood with a clean cloth; do not rub.
  4. Dampen a clean cloth with cold water, using minimal moisture.
  5. Sponge or blot the stain with the cold-water cloth.
  6. Repeat with clean areas of the cloth until no more blood transfers.
  7. Blot with a clean cloth until the upholstery is only slightly damp.
Don't do this
If the stain is no longer wet or does not lift with cold water, it may be set. Stop adding moisture and follow the upholstery care tag.
