How to get curry and turmeric out of carpet
Blot curry and turmeric from the carpet immediately with clean cloths and cool water; turmeric is a yellow dye, so a set stain can be very difficult or even permanent.
- Scrape up any curry gently with a dull knife or spoon.
- Blot the stained carpet with a clean cloth to lift as much color as possible.
- Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and blot the stain from the outside toward the center.
- Mix a small amount of dish soap with cool water, dampen a clean cloth with it, and blot the stained area.
- Blot again with a clean cloth dampened with cool water.
- Press a dry clean cloth onto the area to absorb moisture.
- Repeat blotting only while color is still transferring to the cloth.
Don't do this
- Do not rub, because rubbing spreads the stain and frays the carpet pile.
- Do not wait to treat it, because turmeric is a yellow dye and can become almost impossible to remove once set.
- Do not scrub with a brush, because scrubbing can spread the stain and damage the pile.
- Do not keep applying moisture after color stops transferring, because that can spread the stain deeper into the carpet.
A slight yellow or red stain may remain because turmeric stains are very difficult to remove successfully. If it has set, you may need to live with the stain or use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
