How to get curry and turmeric out of carpet

Blot curry and turmeric from the carpet immediately with clean cloths and cool water; turmeric is a yellow dye, so a set stain can be very difficult or even permanent.

  1. Scrape up any curry gently with a dull knife or spoon.
  2. Blot the stained carpet with a clean cloth to lift as much color as possible.
  3. Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and blot the stain from the outside toward the center.
  4. Mix a small amount of dish soap with cool water, dampen a clean cloth with it, and blot the stained area.
  5. Blot again with a clean cloth dampened with cool water.
  6. Press a dry clean cloth onto the area to absorb moisture.
  7. Repeat blotting only while color is still transferring to the cloth.
Don't do this
A slight yellow or red stain may remain because turmeric stains are very difficult to remove successfully. If it has set, you may need to live with the stain or use a commercial product made for this, used per its label.
