How to get urine out of mattress
Blot up as much urine as possible first; the mattress can usually improve, but it must be surface-cleaned and dried fully.
- Blot the wet area with clean cloths until no more urine transfers.
- Blot the stain with equal parts white vinegar and cold/cool water.
- Blot again with clean cloths to lift moisture from the mattress surface.
- Let the mattress dry fully.
- Apply baking soda to the dry stain, then remove it with clean cloths or a soft brush.
- Use laundry or enzyme detergent per its label if odour remains.
Don't do this
- Do not rub the stain; rubbing can push urine deeper into the mattress.
- Do not soak the mattress; it cannot be laundered and trapped moisture can cause mildew.
- Do not use 3% hydrogen peroxide on this page; white vinegar is already used here.
- Do not mask the odour without enzymes; it can fail to remove the urine odour.
If the stain or odour remains after drying, use laundry or enzyme detergent per its label. If it still remains, the urine may be set in the mattress.
