How to get sweat and deodorant stains out of mattress

Pretest first, then blot the mattress surface with cool water and a small amount of detergent; sweat and deodorant marks may lighten, but dye change can be permanent.

  1. Pretest dish soap or laundry or enzyme detergent on an inconspicuous area and let it dry.
  2. Blot the stained area with a clean cloth dampened with cold or cool water.
  3. Apply a small amount of dish soap or laundry or enzyme detergent to a damp clean cloth, then blot the stain from the outside toward the center.
  4. Let the detergent sit for 30 minutes.
  5. Blot with a clean cloth dampened with cold or cool water to remove detergent.
  6. Blot with dry clean cloths until no more moisture transfers.
  7. Let the mattress dry fully before covering it.
Don't do this
Repeat the detergent blotting 2 or 3 times if the stain or odor remains. If color has changed from deodorant or perspiration, the discoloration may be permanent.
