How to get rust out of sink

Blot the rust spot dry and start with a baking soda paste, but know that rust stains may be very difficult to remove and can be permanent.

  1. Blot the stain dry with a clean cloth; do not rub.
  2. Spot test a baking soda paste in an inconspicuous area first.
  3. Apply a baking soda paste to the stain and let it sit.
  4. Gently work the paste in with a soft brush, using light pressure.
  5. Rinse the area thoroughly with cold water.
  6. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
Don't do this
"Rust stains may be very difficult to remove and can be permanent, especially if the iron has set into the surface. If the gentle methods fail, a commercial product made for this, used per its label, is the honest next step."
