How to get grease and oil out of concrete
Cover fresh grease or oil with baking soda first, then clean with dish soap; older concrete stains may remain.
- Cover the stain with baking soda.
- Let the baking soda sit for a few hours.
- Scrape up the baking soda with a dull knife or spoon for scraping.
- Blot the area with clean cloths; do not rub.
- Apply dish soap to the stained area with cool water.
- Work the dish soap in gently with a soft brush.
- Blot with clean cloths and rinse with cool water.
Don't do this
- Do not rub, because it can spread the grease or oil.
- Do not rinse before using baking soda, because it can spread the stain.
- Do not skip the baking soda, because fresh grease or oil needs absorbent material first.
- Do not leave dish soap on the concrete, because the surface can stay slick.
Repeat the baking soda and dish soap steps once. If the stain remains, it may be set in the concrete.
